Continuing the spirit of the late former SBL star Wang Nan-Kuei to give back to the grassroots level, the Yilan Youth Charity Basketball Training Camp will be held on June 6th and 7th at Yilan Senior High School. Sang Mao-Sen, head coach of the UBA's National Taiwan Sport University, has been invited as a heavyweight instructor. Previously suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yilan Youth Charity Basketball Training Camp was revived last year under the initiative of Chen Kuo-Wei, a technical consultant for the SBL's Bank of Taiwan team, and received positive feedback. This year, it will continue to be held on June 6th and 7th at Yilan Senior High School, inviting potential stars recommended by various schools to promote local basketball development. After confirming the continuation of the charity basketball camp, the organizers announced today that in addition to Chen Kuo-Wei and Bank of Taiwan coach Chen Yu-Chih, they have invited former Taiwan men's national team head coach and current UBA NTSU head coach Sang Mao-Sen, as well as Yilan-born veteran physical trainer Hsieh Yu-Heng, as heavyweight instructors to contribute to cultivating grassroots basketball talent. It is worth mentioning that in this year's key visual, the number 10, Wang Nan-Kuei, is shown from the back, symbolizing a low-key yet profound "shooter's spirit." Its influence does not need to be emphasized but is always present. Meanwhile, number 11 appears from the front, representing Chen Kuo-Wei and the grassroots coaches of Yilan carrying on this belief and turning it into concrete action. In an interview with CNA, Chen Kuo-Wei stated that his late friend Wang Nan-Kuei had always hoped to bring resources back to his hometown and give back to the grassroots coaches and children. The two often discussed related issues, but the plan was disrupted by Wang's death in a car accident in 2023. Now, with the continuation of the charity camp, Chen Kuo-Wei hopes to carry on Wang Nan-Kuei's spirit and retain basketball talent in Yilan.
