Grand Plastic Technology Reports NT$22 Million Loss from April Ransomware Attack

(CNA, Hsinchu, May 21, by reporter Chang Chien-chung) Semiconductor equipment manufacturer Grand Plastic Technology (GPM), which suffered a ransomware attack on its information systems in April, announced today that after evaluation, the financial loss from the cyberattack is estimated to be around NT$22 million. GPM's announcement stated that the losses from the cyberattack were primarily due to the scrapping and repair of affected hardware and software facilities. Additionally, expenses were incurred for hiring external professional teams and for data recovery, which were included in the total loss amount. GPM pointed out that upon discovering network abnormalities on April 10, it immediately disconnected the company's network and related external connections, completely halting the use of old systems. It promptly engaged external professional teams to assist with corresponding measures, restoring data necessary for operations in the shortest possible time. The cyberattack did not have a major impact on primary operational activities such as production and shipments. To date, no leakage of trade secrets or important information has been discovered. GPM emphasized that it will continue to strengthen its information security monitoring and defense mechanisms, enhance the security management of its network and IT infrastructure, and implement more comprehensive security control measures to reduce future risks.
