Heavy Rains Hit Multiple Regions in China Due to Atmospheric Circulation

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 22. Parts of South China, the Jiangnan region, Sichuan, and Shaanxi have recently experienced heavy to torrential rains. Meteorological analysis suggests this is linked to an atmospheric circulation pattern rarely seen this season. According to CCTV News, the National Meteorological Center predicts that the widespread rainfall will continue from the 22nd to the 23rd, with the rain belt moving northward. Starting from the 24th, another round of rainfall is expected, necessitating precautions against secondary disasters. Li Ning, a meteorological analyst at China Weather Network, stated that this round of heavy rain arrived early and is exceptionally intense, primarily due to an unusual atmospheric circulation. The combination of cold air from the west and high-pressure systems in the east has channeled moisture from the Pacific and South China Sea northward. The heavy rain in South China is typical warm-sector convective precipitation, exacerbated by the 'train effect' where convective clouds repeatedly form over the same area.
