Central News Agency (Taipei, May 22) At the BWF Super 500 Malaysia Masters, Taiwanese mixed doubles pair Wu Guan-xun and Lee Chia-hsin faced the world No. 6 Danish pair, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, in the quarterfinals today. Despite losing 17-21, 14-21, they achieved their best performance of the season. Ranked 37th in the BWF mixed doubles, Wu and Lee are a domestic couple. They struggled this season, having played 10 matches before the Malaysia Masters with only one appearance in the Round of 16 and first-round exits in the others. However, they performed well this week, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time against Christiansen and Boje. In the first game, the Taiwanese pair fell behind early, managed to tie at 13-13, but conceded four consecutive points to lose the game. In the second game, after changing ends, they took the first point but committed too many unforced errors, allowing the Danish pair to score seven consecutive points. Struggling against the opponents' flat drives, they were unable to string together more than two points at a time and lost in straight sets. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese women's doubles pair Chen Yan-fei and Sun Liang-qing also played in the quarterfinals today but lost 14-21, 21-18, 15-21 after a 58-minute battle against a Chinese pair. All Taiwanese players have now been eliminated.
