Control Yuan Corrects Taichung Education Bureau Over Baseball Coach Sexual Assault Case; Bureau Pledges Comprehensive Review

According to the Central News Agency, a baseball coach surnamed Sung at a Taichung elementary school committed 90 counts of forcible indecency against dozens of students. The Control Yuan issued a correction to the Taichung Education Bureau and the elementary school, finding flaws in the hiring process, superficial space management, and a lack of preventive mechanisms. The Taichung Education Bureau replied today that in addition to imposing heavy penalties on negligent personnel, it is urging schools to accelerate audits, comprehensively review relevant mechanisms, and strengthen the verification of educational personnel before and after hiring. The Bureau emphasized that it has initiated individual and group counseling for victims through professional counselors. It has also completed training for the "Unfit Personnel Reporting and Inquiry System" in all Taichung schools and reviewed contract versions for external sports coaches. The Bureau will continue to subsidize gender equality education and conduct campus safety inspections at least once before the start of each semester.
