CNA reporter Chang Chi, Hualien, May 22. The Hualien County Government announced today that it is raising salaries for contract staff, responding to the Executive Yuan's policy that government contract employees' monthly salaries should be at least 1.1 times the minimum wage. The increase ranges from 500 to 1,000 TWD, retroactive to January 1st, benefiting 324 employees. Payments are expected to be processed by July. The county government announced that staff previously at 230 pay points will be raised to 234 pay points (approximately 32,549 TWD), while those on minimum wage will be raised to 1.1 times the minimum wage (32,450 TWD). The Department of Personnel stated that the total increase affects 324 people, adding 8 million TWD to the annual county budget. The county government noted that given the heavy workload from recent earthquakes and typhoons, they hope to retain excellent frontline staff by improving their compensation.
