Opposition Parties Propose Report from Premier Cho on 'Trump-Xi' Impact; Bill Moves to Second Reading

The KMT and TPP caucuses in the Legislative Yuan proposed today that Premier Cho Jung-tai, along with heads of the Mainland Affairs Council, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Economic Affairs, provide a special report on the impact of the Trump-Xi meeting on Taiwan-US and cross-strait relations. Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu announced that the proposal would proceed to a second reading and be subject to party caucus negotiations. The proposal highlights concerns that Taiwan could become a bargaining chip in US-China geopolitical maneuvering, potentially impacting the semiconductor industry. DPP caucus whip Fan Yun stated that the party does not oppose the report, but criticized the opposition for cutting defense budgets, which she argued is the real threat to Taiwan's security.
