Central News Agency, Taipei, May 22. At the Taekwondo Asian Championships held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the women's 49kg category took place today. Taiwanese athlete Liu Yu-yun lost 0-2 to South Korea's Kim Hyang-gi in the final, but still secured a silver medal for Taiwan. This is the first medal for Taiwan in this weight class in eight years. The 19-year-old Liu rose to fame last year by winning gold at the Taekwondo World Championships. She advanced through the rounds to reach the final in the 2026 Asian Championships, but her conservative approach in the final led to the defeat. The last time Taiwan won a medal in this weight class was in 2018, when Hong You-ting won bronze. The famous 'Pretty Baby' Yang Shu-chun won gold in 2012.
