Reuters: Trump officials sought to ban voting machines citing national security risks

Reuters reported, citing two sources, that President Trump's election security chief asked the Commerce Department last year if it could declare voting machine components a national security risk, attempting to ban machines used in more than half of US states. Reuters revealed that White House advisor Kurt Olsen, appointed by Trump to prove debunked election fraud theories, pushed this plan targeting Dominion Voting Systems. Sources said Olsen and other officials discussed how the federal government could seize control of elections from states. The plan reached the Commerce Department's research stage but collapsed because officials failed to provide evidence to justify it.
