Central News Agency, Taipei, May 22. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an responded today at the City Council regarding reports that NVIDIA's Taiwan headquarters at the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (T1718 site) would break ground on the 27th. He stated that NVIDIA has not yet applied for a building permit and that he has not received confirmation of any scheduled events, emphasizing that he respects NVIDIA's planning. DPP Councilor Lin Yen-feng pointed out that while media reports suggest a groundbreaking on the 27th, the Taipei City Construction Management Office confirmed no permit application has been filed. Mayor Chiang acknowledged that administrative procedures are still ongoing. When asked if a ceremony on the 27th would be merely symbolic, Construction Management Office Director Yu Chi-hsueh explained that while legal construction cannot begin without a permit, landowners are free to hold traditional groundbreaking ceremonies. Mayor Chiang added that he has not received any official invitation and that any information should come directly from NVIDIA.
