(Central News Agency, Seoul, 22nd) According to Yonhap News, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited Taiwan yesterday to meet with Rick Tsai, CEO of fabless semiconductor company MediaTek, to discuss cooperation. Samsung is currently striving to strengthen its foundry business to meet the increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Yonhap cited sources saying that this meeting is seen as one of the measures taken by Samsung Electronics to alleviate concerns among its global partners. Samsung Electronics' labor and management reached a preliminary agreement at the last minute yesterday, mediated by the government, avoiding a planned 18-day strike and the risk of global supply chain disruptions.

Industry observers believe that the high-level talks between Samsung and MediaTek may have involved detailed discussions on cooperation. MediaTek currently outsources its orders to TSMC.

Fabless semiconductor companies focus on chip design and do not own manufacturing facilities, relying on foundry companies to produce the chips they design.

Samsung Electronics has recently secured foundry orders from several global companies, including Tesla and Qualcomm.
