CHIAYI, May 22 (CNA) - The Chiayi City Health Bureau inspected the Luo Da-de ENT and Family Medicine Clinic on May 20 and discovered a hidden camera inside a smoke detector in the X-ray room. The bureau notified the police to seize the equipment and investigate. The clinic issued a statement today claiming the device was obsolete equipment awaiting removal.

The Health Bureau stated that while the X-ray room contained a hidden camera, over a dozen other visible surveillance cameras were found in the lobby, public spaces, infusion rooms, and blood collection rooms. No cameras were found in the changing rooms. The bureau noted that under the Medical Care Act, the clinic's director is responsible for inadequate supervision and will face penalties. Police are investigating potential criminal charges related to privacy violations.

The clinic stated on Facebook that it contacted the vendor immediately and confirmed under the supervision of the Health Bureau and police that the device was not connected to any active monitoring screens. The clinic has requested the removal of all unused surveillance equipment to ensure patient privacy.
