Gas Explosion at Shanxi Coal Mine in China: Death Toll Revised to 82

According to Xinhua, a gas explosion occurred at the Liushenyu Coal Mine in Changzhi, Shanxi Province. The Changzhi municipal government announced that the accident has resulted in 82 deaths, 128 injuries, and 2 missing persons. Mayor Chen Xiangyang stated that the operating company, Tongzhou Group, is suspected of major illegal activities. The explosion occurred 300 meters underground, causing severe damage. The death toll was initially reported as 90 but has been revised down to 82.
