National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) held its graduation ceremony today, with doctoral graduates from 30 countries and master's graduates from 27 countries. President Yen Chia-yuh pointed out that in the face of an AI-driven world, there is a greater need for talent that is not afraid of hands-on work and can solve problems, which is the core strength of NTUST.
A total of 3,410 students graduated today, including 2,019 master's students from 27 countries and 140 doctoral students from 30 countries. Chen Shen-hsien, Chairman of Sinotech Engineering Consultants, was invited to deliver a keynote speech and offer his blessings to the graduates.
Chen encouraged the students, stating that everyone is gifted differently and that by leveraging individual strengths and persisting in their goals, they can achieve success. He reminded the young students to hold onto what is eternal and persistent in life, noting that the definition of success is broad and ultimately about improving the quality of life.
In his address, President Yen quoted 'A Tale of Two Cities': 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' He noted that in the face of the AI revolution, we are standing in an era that is equally contradictory yet full of opportunities.
Yen emphasized that the AI world requires people who can perform practical work, are not afraid to operate various equipment, and can instinctively judge and handle problems when they arise. The training provided by NTUST, he noted, is exactly what builds this foundation.
Michael Santoso, a graduate representative from Surabaya, Indonesia, stated that not everyone has the opportunity to study abroad or graduate from NTUST, calling it a 'privilege and luck' that comes with responsibility.
Santoso expressed his hope that graduation is not just about finding a job, but about becoming a bridge between cultures and a solver of global problems. He also urged his peers to remember to reach back and help others, rather than just walking through the doors opened by those before them.
