According to the Central News Agency, a man surnamed Wang caused an accident in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City today, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. While in a trance-like state, he reversed his car into a motorcycle waiting at a red light, then drove forward and ran over the victims. One woman died, and another was injured. The Zhonghe Police Precinct stated that Wang hit a curb while attempting to turn left on Jingping Road, then reversed into the motorcycle. When police arrived, they found Wang incoherent. A saliva test for drugs was positive, and 'Etomidate' vape cartridges and paraphernalia were found in the car. Police arrested Wang and transferred him to the prosecutor's office on charges of public endangerment and violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. Police have been intensifying crackdowns on emerging drugs and drugged driving, having apprehended 48 cases in May alone.
