Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in the center of Belgrade today to demand early elections. This protest stems from an anti-corruption movement that has grown since the roof of the Novi Sad train station collapsed in November 2024, killing 16 people, with calls for a transparent investigation evolving into political demands for early elections. Amidst the noise of drums and whistles, the crowd marched toward Slavija Square in the city center, chanting the movement's signature slogan, 'Students are winning.' The slogan was also printed on banners, T-shirts, and badges. Tonight, as the rally dispersed, clashes broke out between protesters and police. Masked individuals threw stones, bottles, and firecrackers at police, who responded with tear gas. AFP reporters witnessed multiple arrests, and military police set up cordons around the presidential palace and parliament buildings to prevent the crowd from approaching.
