Man in Yilan Arrested in Nan'ao After Ramming Police with Fake License Plate Vehicle and Fleeing Under Fire

A man surnamed Chen, suspected of driving a rental car with a fake license plate, refused to stop for police and rammed his vehicle into officers. Police fired 11 shots to stop him, but Chen managed to flee. Police apprehended Chen in Nan'ao Township yesterday afternoon and processed him after questioning. The 37-year-old Chen was driving a rental car with a fake license plate around 6:00 PM on the 22nd when he encountered police patrolling on Luozhuang Street in Luodong Township, Yilan. When police attempted to stop him, Chen refused to comply and rammed the officers, causing minor leg injuries to two of them. Fearing for their lives, the officers fired 11 shots in accordance with the law to stop him, but Chen forced his way out of the scene. Police immediately reviewed surveillance footage and found that Chen had repeatedly changed transportation methods during his escape to evade capture, eventually hiding in a village in Nan'ao Township. Police mobilized to Nan'ao to apprehend him. Upon spotting the police, Chen attempted to escape by diving into bushes and climbing over railroad tracks. Following a persistent search and with the help of local residents, he was apprehended yesterday afternoon around 5:00 PM. He was transferred to the District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of forging special documents and obstructing official duties. Huang Shi-wei, Deputy Captain of the Luodong Police Precinct, stated today that the public should not use forged or altered license plates or flee from police inspections. He emphasized that police will strictly enforce the law against any illegal acts that endanger the safety of officers or public safety to maintain social order and protect the public.
