Regarding the recent series of drug-impaired driving accidents, Executive Yuan spokesperson Li Hui-chih stated today that Premier Cho Jung-tai believes current legal regulations are insufficient and has instructed the Ministry of Justice to immediately initiate a comprehensive review. For first-time offenders, those causing death or injury, and repeat offenders, the government will study increasing criminal penalties and other preventive measures to strengthen deterrence and prevent future tragedies. Premier Cho also ordered the six major drug enforcement systems—prosecutors, police, investigation bureaus, military police, coast guard, and customs—to intensify their efforts to ensure social safety and public well-being.
