Central News Agency, Yilan, May 24. A Vietnamese female migrant worker, surnamed Nguyen, was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing seven melons worth approximately NT$4,200 from a field. During the police pursuit, she climbed onto a tin roof and engaged in a standoff with officers. After being persuaded, she surrendered and was processed according to the law. Village Chief Yeh Ching-wen stated that villagers spotted two people stealing melons and alerted the farmer, who then notified the police. While one suspect escaped, Nguyen fled into a nearby field and climbed onto a roof to resist arrest. Firefighters were dispatched, and she eventually surrendered around 2:00 PM. Another melon theft was reported in the same village today, and police are investigating.
