(Central News Agency, Lu Kang-cheng, Miaoli County, May 24) Several middle school students were playing in the water near Longfeng Fishing Port in Zhunan Township, Miaoli County, yesterday when a first-year middle school boy accidentally fell into the sea and went missing. Police, fire, and coast guard units were notified and launched a search, finding the student after about two hours. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead.
The Miaoli County Fire Bureau reported today that they received a report from the Coast Guard's Longfeng Fishing Port Inspection Station at 6:42 PM yesterday that someone had been seen falling into the sea. The Fire Bureau immediately dispatched the Zhunan branch to assist in the search.
The Fire Bureau stated that several middle school students were playing in the water near the shore of Longfeng Fishing Port yesterday evening when a first-year boy accidentally slipped and fell into the sea. His classmates saw this and immediately ran to the Longfeng Fishing Port Inspection Station to report it.
After reviewing surveillance footage and confirming that someone had fallen into the sea, the Fire Bureau noted that the Coast Guard deployed patrol boats to search the sea and dispatched large drones for reconnaissance. The Fire Bureau also used drones to conduct a carpet search along the shore and found the boy in the open sea at 8:38 PM, quickly rescuing him.
The Fire Bureau stated that when the student was rescued, he had no pulse or breathing. Emergency medical technicians performed emergency treatment, including intraosseous infusion, and he was rushed to the hospital for rescue, but was ultimately declared dead. The exact cause of the fall is still under investigation.
