As Penghu enters its peak tourism season, the three precincts under the Penghu County Police Bureau have begun coordinating with a nationwide effort to strengthen the crackdown on drug-impaired driving. Starting yesterday, they launched day and night operations to intercept drug-impaired drivers and cut off drug supply sources, strengthening inspections at key traffic hotspots to protect road users. The Penghu County Police Bureau is executing these special duties, with the chiefs of the Magong, Baisha, and Wang-an precincts—Lin Yan-jun, Li Xing-fang, and Xu De-hai—leading pre-duty briefings and personally supervising checkpoints from day to night to ensure inspection techniques and officer safety. Penghu County Police Chief Lin Shu-guo pointed out that the harm caused by etomidate, commonly known as 'zombie vape,' has become increasingly severe. With Penghu in its peak tourism season and a large influx of visitors, the police are cooperating with the 'Nationwide Simultaneous Strengthening of Drug-Impaired Driving Crackdown and Combatting Zombie Vapes' project. In addition to mobilizing the three precincts to strengthen day and night inspections on roads prone to drug-impaired driving and areas of security concern, they are also simultaneously strengthening the crackdown on drug possession, sales, and manufacturing, continuously tracing sources upward and eradicating them downward. The Penghu County Police Bureau stated that since the end of last year, they have proactively uncovered 32 cases of drug-impaired driving, demonstrating the police's determination to combat drug crimes and prevent drug-impaired driving.
