Yomiuri Giants manager Shinnosuke Abe was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly assaulting his eldest daughter at his home in Tokyo yesterday. He was released early this morning. The Giants issued an apology, stating they would review Abe's disciplinary actions and future with the team. Chief hitting coach Hideki Hashigami will serve as acting manager starting today. Police stated that the 47-year-old Abe allegedly pushed and assaulted his 18-year-old daughter at his home in Shibuya Ward on the 25th. The incident occurred while he was attempting to intervene in an argument between his eldest and 15-year-old second daughter. Abe admitted to the allegations during questioning. Giants President Toru Kunimatsu stated, 'Violence is absolutely unacceptable. We take this matter very seriously.' He apologized to all baseball stakeholders and fans for the scandal occurring just before the interleague games. Abe, a former star catcher, became manager in 2024 and led the team to a Central League title in his first year.
