New Taipei Prosecutors Establish Task Force to Combat Election Interference

Central News Agency (New Taipei) Ahead of the year-end local elections, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (DPO) launched an 'Election Interference Investigation Task Force' on May 25. The office will strengthen inter-agency cooperation to strictly investigate illegal activities such as bribery, election betting, and disinformation. Prosecutors are encouraging the public to provide tips, with rewards offered for information leading to investigations. The New Taipei DPO held a plaque-unveiling ceremony for the task force, presided over by Chief Prosecutor Kuo Yung-fa, with officials from the New Taipei City Police Department and the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau in attendance. With the elections set for November 28, the DPO has been conducting regional seminars since March to deploy intelligence gathering. Kuo emphasized that under the guidance of the Ministry of Justice, the team will integrate intelligence to prevent illegal interference, including foreign influence. The DPO also reminded public officials to avoid activities that could be construed as bribery, such as gift-giving or organizing banquets during holidays, to avoid legal risks.
