The Penghu County Government is investing in seagrass restoration and signed a memorandum of understanding with Chunghwa Telecom's Tainan Operations Office today. By introducing an AIoT smart system, they aim to monitor changes in seagrass growth environments in real-time, creating a win-win future for the blue carbon economy and ecology. Deputy County Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing stated that seagrass beds are vital habitats for marine life and possess carbon sequestration and climate regulation functions. Chunghwa Telecom President Lin Jung-shih noted that the system uses high-definition imaging and water quality/temperature sensors to monitor environmental variables 24/7. This data is uploaded to the cloud, reducing the need for manual inspections and helping research teams adjust seedling strategies with precise data.
