A 70-year-old man surnamed Hsieh, driving a passenger car, allegedly failed to notice a signal change while passing through the intersection of Provincial Highway 3 and Miaoli County Road 62. He collided with a 75-year-old man surnamed Liu, who was riding a motorcycle northbound on Highway 3. Liu fell to the ground and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. The Dahu Precinct of the Miaoli County Police Bureau stated today that the accident occurred around 12:00 PM on the 24th. Preliminary investigations indicate that Hsieh was driving from the direction of Bian'an Bridge toward County Road 62 and, failing to notice the signal change, crossed Highway 3, colliding with Liu's motorcycle. Police and fire rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find the motorcyclist lying on the roadside. Emergency responders noted that he had suffered severe head trauma and had no vital signs. Despite emergency treatment, he succumbed to his injuries. Police stated that neither driver showed signs of alcohol consumption. The exact cause of the accident is still being clarified through the review of dashcam footage and nearby surveillance cameras, and the case will be referred to the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office for an autopsy today. The Dahu Precinct noted that Provincial Highway 3 in Dahu has many major intersections and is often crowded with people and vehicles on holidays, making it an accident hotspot. Given the recent series of fatal and serious accidents, police urge drivers to slow down when approaching intersections and to strictly follow road signs and signals.
