Germany's Handelsblatt reported today, citing European Commission sources, that the EU plans to impose a massive fine of several hundred million euros on Alphabet's Google as part of an antitrust investigation. The decision is nearing finalization and is expected to be announced before the summer break. This would be the largest fine issued by the EU for violations of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to limit the market power of big tech companies. The investigation, launched in March 2025, focuses on Google's alleged bias in search results. Google has criticized the regulations, claiming they degrade the quality of its search services.
