TAIPEI (CNA) - IC design firm MediaTek announced today that it is deepening its partnership with e-paper manufacturer E Ink to jointly target the e-reader and education markets with a focus on color content, further enhancing smart reading and digital learning experiences. MediaTek stated in a press release that the MT8115 and MT8126 are system-on-chips (SoCs) specifically built for generative AI e-readers, supporting both E Ink Gallery and E Ink Kaleido color e-paper technology platforms. MediaTek noted that the MT8115 and MT8126 feature an integrated proprietary Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which supports on-device AI applications such as multi-person voice recognition, meeting transcript generation, meeting summaries, and real-time translation in over 20 languages. In terms of display technology, it supports oxide thin-film transistor 7-level high-voltage driving technology. By accelerating the movement of e-paper ink particles, it improves screen refresh rates and display clarity, providing a smoother and more detailed reading experience, and can support high-resolution e-paper panels up to 13.3 inches. MediaTek indicated that the MT8115 and MT8126 are expected to be first equipped in the next-generation e-paper tablets from E Ink's subsidiary, E Ink Holdings' subsidiary. Combined with the E Ink Gallery color e-paper platform, it will demonstrate the optimized results of integrating e-paper display technology with SoCs, with related solutions to be showcased at the 2026 Taipei International Computer Show (COMPUTEX).
