CNA (Tainan, May 26) Two men caught and ate an alligator gar from Taipei's 228 Peace Park and posted about it on the Facebook page of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Fishing Club. The club issued an apology, and the Taipei City Government plans to fine the two men 3,600 TWD each. The Taipei City Parks and Street Lights Office stated that the alligator gar had lived in the pond for over 20 years, and the men will be fined 3,600 TWD each for violating the Taipei City Park Management Regulations, which prohibit fishing in parks. According to the club's statement, the two men, surnamed Chiang and Chen, are not current members of the club and posted without the club's consent or review. The club apologized for the lack of oversight. The men had posted photos of the catch and cooking process with the caption, 'Eat more invasive species, one bite of love at a time.' NCKU stated that the fishing club is also a victim and that the university will strengthen the management of social media accounts.
