Background

As the food manufacturing industry continues to face severe labor shortages and recruitment difficulties, Echigo Seika Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of rice crackers and other products in Niigata Prefecture, was facing the realistic prediction that "the workforce will be halved in 10 years." To break through this critical situation and achieve the major goal of acquiring "FSSC 22000 certification" to strengthen overseas exports, the company began considering the introduction of a system to promote frontline digital transformation (DX).

However, a difference of opinion arose with the management, who emphasized integration with the core ERP system for company-wide optimization. Prioritizing ERP integration would increase operational costs and the burden on the frontline, distancing them from the crucial goal of acquiring FSSC 22000 certification. Caught between management's demands and the frontline's ideals, Miho Katagiri, Deputy Plant Manager of the Katakai Plant, decided to prioritize "frontline usability" and set out to build consensus with the management.

In this seminar, Echigo Seika's Representative Director Mr. Yoshihara and Katakai Plant Deputy Manager Ms. Katagiri, who personally faced these challenges and drove internal transformation, will take the stage. They will reveal the real behind-the-scenes story of how they achieved consensus with management—a challenge faced by many companies—including their approach and how they balanced "system requirements demanded by the company" with "frontline usability." Furthermore, they will explain in detail the processes and ingenuities of "education and structuring" to ensure the tool is firmly adopted and established among frontline workers who are unfamiliar with digitalization after the system's introduction.
