Shiseido Japan Co., Ltd., in collaboration with volunteers from Dentsu Inc. and the certified NPO CancerNet Japan (CNJ), is launching 'MAKEUP & PHOTOS WITH SMILES' under the 'LAVENDER RING' initiative. The event, held in three cities—Tokyo, Aichi, and Osaka—aims to capture lively photographs of cancer survivors after providing them with personalized makeup. Through this project, the organizers hope to share cancer experiences positively with society and work toward a world where every cancer survivor can live with a smile.
LAVENDER RING The Shiseido Group, alongside Dentsu volunteers and CNJ, operates LAVENDER RING with the mission of 'making every cancer survivor smile,' using 'lavender' as the symbol for all types of cancer. Despite cancer being a common condition, many survivors still face psychological burdens due to physical changes and social bias. Launched in 2017 to promote social understanding, the initiative now operates in seven countries and regions, including Japan. It has been held 42 times, with approximately 1,200 participants (as of March 2026).
About MAKEUP & PHOTOS WITH SMILES This program aims to 'leave a photograph of living one's life as oneself despite having cancer and deliver it to society.' After receiving makeup advice from Shiseido experts and hair styling suggestions from professional artists, participants are photographed by Masato Kanazawa. An 'original poster' is then created, accompanied by the survivor's own message.
