SOKENDAI and Tellus Sign Partnership Agreement

The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI) (President: Kei Nagata) and Tellus Inc. (President and CEO: Hideto Yamazaki) signed an agreement on mutual cooperation on June 11, 2026, to further promote educational and research activities in academic fields by leveraging human resources, technology, resources, and knowledge. This agreement is part of an initiative aimed at contributing to the development of academia and the promotion of industry, as well as fostering next-generation human resources and creating new innovations.

Educational activities to improve the technical skills and knowledge of students in SOKENDAI's academic fields.

◆ Background of the Partnership Agreement

In recent years, the advancement of research utilizing data science and advanced computing resources, as well as the acceleration of next-generation human resource development and innovation creation, have become urgent issues in all academic fields. SOKENDAI focuses on cutting-edge academic research and the development of next-generation research personnel by utilizing the rich research environment of its inter-university research institutes. Tellus, which operates a satellite data platform, conducts a competitive research support program, providing satellite data and cloud computing environments for selected research themes, and also accepts doctoral students for internships.

This mutual cooperation agreement establishes a framework to promote mutual cooperation in the fields of education, research, and social implementation by bringing together the strengths of both organizations.

SOKENDAI was established in 1988 as Japan's first national graduate university, conducting world-class education and research. Its most distinctive feature is that it uses the research environment of inter-university research institutes, which are hubs for leading cutting-edge academia through joint research with researchers both domestically and internationally, as its educational base. SOKENDAI provides advanced specialized education by its faculty and utilizes the rich research resources of these institutions.

Tellus Inc. is a Space Data Tech company that provides services integrating satellite data with IT and AI, under the mission of "To be a space platform where everyone gathers, driven by software." Centered around the satellite data platform "Tellus," the company offers the AI model development and verification environment "Tellus AI Playground" and the cloud-based workspace for corporations "Tellus Pro." "Tellus" handles the largest scale in Japan, dealing with 45 types of satellite data and 1 type of ground data, including governmental and commercial data, and surpassed 43,000 registered users as of the end of May 2026. Tellus Inc. will continue to support the creation of new businesses by providing environments and infrastructure for satellite data using IT and AI to application providers, and contribute to the expansion of the space information industry market both domestically and internationally, and to the industrialization of the space industry.
