The usage of generative AI is shifting, particularly among the younger generation. While searching, summarizing, and writing are common, users aged 15-24 are increasingly utilizing GenAI for personal matters: career/job consultation (59%), emotional regulation (53%), and interpersonal issues (47%).
Additionally, 55% of Gen Z users report that AI advice influences their actions and decisions, suggesting that conversations with GenAI are fostering decision-making rather than just gathering information.
Mindia conducted this survey on 1,200 GenAI users across Japan. This report highlights key trends among Gen Z.
[1] Influence of AI Advice on Decision-making AI is becoming a 'decision-support' presence. 55% of Gen Z respondents stated that AI advice impacts their actions and decisions, indicating that it is moving beyond a simple information-gathering tool.
[2] GenAI Usage Across the Entire Decision-making Process When faced with choices, respondents aged 15-24 utilize GenAI to compare pros and cons (78%), organize thoughts (72%), and take action (69%). This demonstrates its role across the entire decision-making spectrum.
[3] 'GenAI' Ranks 3rd for Consultation, Surpassing Web Search When faced with worries, the top consultation choices are 'parents/family' (26%) and 'friends' (26%), followed by 'GenAI' (16%). This ranks above 'web search' (9%), highlighting its role as a partner for dialogue.
[4] 54% Consider It Okay to Consult AI, Yet 65% View Reliance as Risky While 54% are open to organizing feelings via AI, 65% agree that relying solely on AI for serious issues is dangerous. This reflects a nuanced usage that acknowledges both the utility and risks of AI.
