Cosmolab (operated by Cosmo Health Co., Ltd., Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Takashi Kozuka), a marketing platform specializing in the senior demographic, has released a report on a survey regarding 'indigestion' among seniors.
This report covers experiences of indigestion, common symptoms, diet, lifestyle habits, coping methods, and desired information among seniors aged 50 and older. It highlights the background causes of indigestion and the direction of daily care needs.
Indigestion is a Widely Shared Concern Frequency of feeling indigestion was most commonly reported as 'sometimes' (34.2%), and when combined with 'often' (11.8%), over 40% of seniors currently experience indigestion. Including those who 'used to have it but not much now' (21.0%), indigestion is a common concern that many seniors face.
Fatty Foods, Overeating, and Lifestyle Irregularities The foods most associated with indigestion were 'fatty foods' (63.2%), and 'overeating' (68.1%) was the most cited behavior. Additionally, 'short/shallow sleep' (48.3%), 'lack of exercise' (48.1%), and 'stress' (44.8%) were frequently mentioned, suggesting that daily life rhythm impacts symptoms beyond just food intake.
Demand for Daily Prevention and Coping Information When asked about helpful information, 'dietary precautions' (57.9%) and 'lifestyle precautions' (54.4%) ranked highest. There is a strong need for information on eating habits and lifestyle changes that prevent indigestion before it occurs, rather than just post-symptom care.
### Key Findings 1. Indigestion Experience: Over 40% currently experience it, making it a widely shared issue. 2. Symptoms: Symptoms are diverse, including heartburn (51.1%) and a feeling of food remaining in the stomach (31.4%). 3. Timing: While many report 'no specific timing,' there is a tendency to experience it around dinner time. 4. Triggers: Fatty foods are the main trigger, but about 30% of respondents cannot identify specific causes.
