The ABC documentary special 'The Invisible Scars: 20 Years After the JR Derailment' (produced by Asahi Television Broadcasting), featuring Nana Yamato of Creek and River Co. as director and Masaru Bando as editor, has won the Gold Award at the WorldMediaFestival in the documentary category.

The WorldMediaFestival is one of Europe's largest video competitions, held in Germany since 2000, honoring excellent content in television and corporate advertising. This year, 803 works were submitted from 34 countries and regions.

A rapid train carrying people on their way to school and work derailed at a speed significantly exceeding the limit, colliding with a residential building beside the tracks. The catastrophe left 106 passengers and the driver dead, with 562 injured. How have those who 'survived' this accident, bearing deep physical and mental wounds, lived over these 20 years? How did the accident impact their lives? Visiting those whom ABC TV cameras met 20 years ago, each person was found walking forward with deep thoughts etched in their hearts. The film records the words and lives of the 'survivors' to ensure the tragedy and lessons of the accident continue to be conveyed.
