C&R, Inc. will offer a free streaming archive of its online seminar held last January, titled "Motif Utilization in Game Design: Creating Visual Rules to Maintain Consistent World-building," for creators in the gaming industry on June 29 (Mon). Although the original seminar was conducted entirely in English, the archival footage will include a Japanese interpretation.
Game production involves a variety of elements, including characters, backgrounds, art, UI, and items. By establishing a few visual rules as "motifs" (such as shape, color, texture, pattern, and movement), a sense of unity can be created across the entire world of the work. C&R hosts seminars that explain practical methods in detail, ranging from initial motif setting in the project to incorporating them into multiple elements like characters, backgrounds, and UI, and sharing them with the entire team.
The seminar is led by Matthew Moss, a creative director with over 18 years of experience in Tokyo and the United States. By acquiring design thinking centered on motifs, participants can gain benefits specific to development sites, such as (1) faster decision-making, (2) smoother repetitive work, and (3) maintaining style consistency even as projects scale.
<Seminar Contents> - What are motifs? — Thinking about unifying visuals with a few rules - How to connect characters, backgrounds, and UI — Concrete examples of applying motifs - "Motif Design" to streamline decision-making - Practical approaches for sharing within a team - Techniques for maintaining consistency throughout the project
