Dainippon Consultant Co., Ltd. has launched a pilot project for 'Chalcopyrite Solar Cells,' a next-generation technology that overcomes the limitations of conventional solar cells, at Myoko City Hall in Niigata Prefecture. This project is conducted in collaboration with SOLABLE Co., Ltd., utilizing Niigata Prefecture's subsidy for next-generation solar cell verification. Niigata Prefecture is promoting the introduction of renewable energy in snowy regions to achieve a decarbonized society by 2050. However, the weight of snow and harsh weather conditions pose significant challenges. In this pilot, with the cooperation of Myoko City, the effectiveness of these solar cells in a snowy environment will be verified. The project includes verifying power generation performance, public awareness, and emergency setup procedures for disaster scenarios. Chalcopyrite solar cells overcome the 'heavy,' 'flat-surface only,' and 'fragile' weaknesses of traditional crystalline silicon cells. Moving forward, the company aims to gain insights for feasibility studies and business models, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), to contribute to regional decarbonization and disaster resilience.
