Deel, a global HR and payroll platform, has released findings on paid leave trends in the APAC region. Based on a survey of over 4,500 full-time employees using Deel in 2025, Singapore recorded the highest median leave taken at 19 days. Japan's median was lower at 12 days; however, the rate of taking long-term leave of 16 days or more was 1.3%, the second-highest in APAC after Australia. Deel's economist points out that the barrier to taking leave in Japan is not the policy itself, but rather workplace culture and management practices.
