Direava Selected for Phase 4 of METI and NEDO's Domestic Generative AI Development Project 'GENIAC' — Advancing Development and Demonstration of a 'Future Prediction Model for Surgical Procedures' to Enhance Surgical Safety

Direava Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yuji Takeuchi; hereinafter 'Direava') announces its selection for Phase 4 of the 'Post-5G Information and Communication Systems Infrastructure Strengthening Research and Development Program / Development of Competitive Generative AI Foundation Models (GENIAC)' promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization).

The selected R&D theme is 'Development and Demonstration of a "Future Prediction Model for Surgical Procedures" to Enhance Surgical Safety.' Through this project, Direava will accelerate research and development of next-generation generative AI foundation technologies aimed at drastically reducing complications and improving medical safety.

About the Selected Project

Under this project, Direava will work on building a 'Future Prediction Model for Surgical Procedures' to enhance surgical safety.

Leveraging its accumulated technical expertise, the company will advance the development of foundation models that utilize diverse data modalities related to surgery, such as 'images' and 'language.' Through this model, Direava aims to support high-level decision-making in complex surgical procedures and achieve the societal implementation of safe medical practices independent of surgeons' experience levels.

Additionally, the development know-how and outcomes obtained through this project will be widely shared and disseminated, to the extent possible, to contribute to the further development of Japan's domestic generative AI ecosystem.

GENIAC (Generative AI Accelerator Challenge) is a national project jointly promoted by METI and NEDO to strengthen Japan's foundational technologies in generative AI.

By supporting critical elements such as computational resource acquisition, dataset accumulation, and knowledge sharing necessary for developing foundation models—the key to enhancing generative AI development capabilities—GENIAC aims to boost sustainable generative AI innovation and accelerate its societal implementation.
