Daiichi Jitsugyo Co., Ltd. and Agroludens Inc. have begun operations of a large-scale technical demonstration facility at the Agroludens Nasu plant in Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture, aimed at the commercialization of rice-derived mycoprotein and bioethanol. The two companies formed a strategic partnership in 2022 to develop proprietary technology for co-producing mycoprotein and bioethanol from rice. This facility serves as a hub for scale-up verification and will form the basis for future commercial plant design. The companies aim to produce 5,000 tons of mycoprotein annually and are considering global expansion.
