NTT Docomo, Inc. (Docomo) and NEC Corporation (NEC), in collaboration with NTT Corporation (NTT), have developed technology to realize stable, simultaneous communication for multiple high-speed moving vehicles utilizing high-capacity millimeter-wave (40GHz band) communication expected for the 6G era.

This technology utilizes distributed MIMO, which places multiple antennas from a base station at different locations, combined with pre-correction of signal transmission frequency and timing. In demonstration experiments conducted in March 2026, multiple wireless terminal vehicles traveling at high speeds in opposite lanes maintained stable high throughput, successfully improving average throughput by approximately 1.3 times compared to conventional technology.

[Features of the Technology] This technology uses uplink reference signals sent from each wireless terminal vehicle for every base station antenna to pre-estimate the appropriate transmission frequency and signal transmission timing for each vehicle. By pre-correcting multiplexed signals for each vehicle before synthesis and transmission, it eliminates differences in reception timing among multiple vehicles, realizing stable high-capacity communication.

[Future Developments] This demonstration proved that high-capacity communication using millimeter waves is possible even in environments where multiple automobiles or trains are moving at high speeds. Development will now be accelerated toward the social implementation of 6G-related technologies.
