A pilot project utilizing 'World Link Door™,' a Mixed Reality (MR) technology developed by NTT Docomo and the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) that allows seamless movement between real and virtual spaces by walking through physical doors, has been selected for the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation's (Miraikan) 'Lab for Creating the Future' public solicitation program. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience this technology at Miraikan starting in July 2026.

In this experiment, visitors wearing the Apple Vision Pro will walk through a physical door installed at the museum to move into a virtual space (a simulation of space), where they can collect virtual space stones before returning to the real world. In addition to bidirectional movement between physical and virtual spaces, users can also move through 'portals.' Through surveys and feedback from participants, the project aims to verify the effectiveness of 'World Link Door' in improving user experience and to explore multifaceted challenges.

[Outline of Pilot Project at Miraikan's 'Lab for Creating the Future']

Scheduled Dates: - 1st Period: July – August 2026 - 2nd Period: April – September 2027

Location: Communication Lobby, 1st Floor, National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan)

Theme: Verification of spatial movement experience using 'World Link Door' MR technology connecting real and virtual worlds.

'World Link Door' leverages technology developed by the two organizations in March 2025. Through demonstrations at events such as EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, they have refined features including virtual space diversification, automated door recognition, and audio control adjusted to door opening angles. To accelerate practical application, the project aims to understand user impact and address multifaceted challenges based on the results of these pilot tests.
