Dr. Lululun Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tatsunori Niioka), the company behind Japan's No.1 face mask brand 'Lululun,' co-hosted an academic seminar with the Japan Pressure Ulcer Society Kyushu-Okinawa Regional Meeting on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The seminar featured presentations combining clinical insights with skincare development perspectives, focusing on scientifically backed active ingredients and the importance of appropriate skincare (therapeutic-supportive skincare) for chronic skin conditions.
In the first half, Dr. Natsumi Noguchi delivered an academic lecture on a novel therapeutic approach for intractable pressure ulcers, proposing a synergistic interaction hypothesis involving three key components: '5-Aminolevulinic Acid (5-ALA),' 'Human Stem Cell Conditioned Medium,' and 'Eggshell Membrane.'
Based on fundamental evaluations and existing evidence, the following trends have been observed or suggested:
・ Mitochondrial activation, ATP production enhancement, and antimicrobial effects from 5-ALA ・ Promotion of epithelial regeneration ・ Paracrine-mediated angiogenesis from stem cell conditioned medium ・ Anti-inflammatory effects and suppression of pressure ulcer formation ・ Natural extracellular matrix (ECM) function of eggshell membrane in providing cell adhesion scaffolds ・ Activation of fibroblasts
The combination of these three components may enable a multifaceted approach that covers all phases of wound healing—not just single mechanisms—such as 'excessive inflammation control,' 'angiogenesis,' and 'cellular scaffold and ECM reconstruction.' Building on these findings, future stepwise validation through preclinical trials and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is expected to lead to the development of novel medical wound dressings.
In the second half, Hinano Sasaki, Development Lead at Dr. Lululun Co., Ltd., presented the company's proprietary sheet technology and moisturizing approach for daily skincare. She explained the development background of the 'Sei-Kankaku Sheet' (multi-layered structure), designed to deliver ample hydration deep into the stratum corneum, while incorporating concepts from aesthetic medicine to ensure safe daily home use. The presentation shared insights into next-generation sheet masks that maintain healthy skin through proper moisturization and barrier support, addressing modern lifestyle-related skin concerns such as dryness and dullness caused by smartphone usage and sleep deprivation.
