The 38th edition of the America’s Cup, the world’s premier yachting race, will be held in Naples in 2027. Since 2019, Panerai has served as the official sponsor of Luna Rossa, the team that triumphed in the preliminary qualifying races. To support the team’s ultimate goal of winning the coveted trophy, Panerai has launched two new Luminor timepieces.
Each new model reflects this collaboration: the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 showcases a speed chronograph function, while the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 highlights the versatility of dual-time functionality—both embodying Panerai’s philosophy of performance-driven design.
"The new Panerai Luna Rossa collection embodies the brand’s pioneering spirit, fusing its rich maritime heritage and unmatched precision with Luna Rossa’s hallmark innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence," said Emmanuel Perrin, CEO of Panerai. "This partnership is more than a collaboration—it’s a shared journey into the future of high-performance watchmaking that began eight years ago. It celebrates the team’s courage and technology, while also serving as a practical test of our timepieces in open-sea conditions. We are proud to accompany Luna Rossa in their challenge to win the 2027 America’s Cup."
Panerai’s commitment to continuous refinement based on feedback from the Luna Rossa team is deeply rooted in its history. The Maison’s innovation has always been driven by purpose, shaped by functional instruments designed for extreme conditions. Since 2019, the partnership with Luna Rossa has become a platform for Panerai to explore new materials, complications, and performance-oriented design. This collaboration has progressively expanded through tool watches conceived as instruments, with performance validated through rigorous testing, verification, and real-world conditions. This ensures that design and technology work in close harmony, with every component fulfilling its precise function.
Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 (44mm diameter, steel case, automatic movement, 100m water resistance, 42-hour power reserve)
Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 — JPY 1,716,000 including tax
The Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 is a limited-edition chronograph (500 pieces) with a 44mm steel case, combining Panerai’s functional design codes with the visual identity of the Luna Rossa team.
The automatic P.9210 caliber features a 13 ¼ ligne chronograph movement, 6.9mm thick, with 41 jewels, a Glucydur® balance oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and an Incabloc® shock-absorbing system. It delivers a 42-hour power reserve via a single barrel, powering hours, minutes, a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, and a chronograph function engineered for reliable performance. Special attention has been paid to the automatic winding mechanism, verified at Panerai’s Manufacture in Neuchâtel, ensuring faster and more reliable response during use. The refined movement is decorated with a vertical brushed finish and blue lacquer.
This timepiece features a speed chronograph function using a tachymeter scale on the bezel, enabling sailors to calculate the average speed of a boat over a fixed distance. This function is crucial for Luna Rossa, where every second counts, and the scale is paired with a central red-and-white chronograph second hand for calculating average speed. To maintain the visual identity of the crown protector and the profile of the Luminor case, the pushers with red accents are positioned on the left side of the case at 8 and 10 o’clock.
Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 (40mm diameter, steel case, automatic movement, 100m water resistance, 72-hour power reserve)
Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 — JPY 1,705,000 including tax
Designed to be compact, versatile, and suitable for broader wearability, the new Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 (40mm) is the first in the Luna Rossa collection to feature a metal bracelet. Balancing the functionality of a sports watch with the presence of the Luna Rossa world, this model expands the collection as a new expression of the collaboration spirit.
Through the open case back, the reliable automatic P.900/GMT movement with a three-day power reserve can be admired. The movement integrates its functions into an impressively slim profile—12½ lignes (28.2mm) in diameter and just 5.2mm thick. Energy is supplied by a bidirectional winding rotor and stored in a single barrel. It also features a hacking seconds function for precise synchronization.
The dial features a silver sunburst finish with white Super-LumiNova® X2, continuing the visual codes of Luna Rossa through a more refined layout. The small seconds counter is accented with a red hand, and the top plate features a concentric finish known as "azurage," adding depth to the display. The GMT hand draws inspiration from the shape of the sails on Luna Rossa boats.
Both new timepieces are equipped with 10-bar (approximately 100-meter) water resistance and have undergone rigorous quality testing, exceeding the guaranteed water resistance value by 25%.
