"Digital Nomads Japan Meetup (S-Tokyo)"

ELENTO LLC (Headquarters: Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Representative: Elena Tsukada), a glocal communication agency originating from the regions that connects local and global, will co-host an exchange event with Linnas Design Inc. (Headquarters: Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, President: Akihito Matsushita), which operates the Tokyo-based community space for digital nomads, "S-Tokyo." The event, "Digital Nomads Japan Meetup ∞ — Digital Nomad Day Special Edition," will bring together regions from across Japan and digital nomads visiting from around the world on August 8, 2026, in Tokyo at S-Tokyo. This event will be held with the cooperation of the Japan Digital Nomad Association (hereinafter JDNA).

At this event, regional players working on attracting and accepting digital nomads will deliver the appeal of their respective regions directly to digital nomads from around the world gathered in Tokyo through "short pitches." Additionally, opportunities for face-to-face connections between regions and nomads will be created through morning coffee networking, skill sharing, and evening mixers. Starting from Tokyo, the event aims to support the creation of global related populations in each region.

Furthermore, applications are now open for regions that will present their local pitches on August 8, and for collaborative regions that will serve as "one-day managers" for meetups during the "Region x Digital Nomad Enhancement Period" (held every Thursday) from September to November.

Background of the Event

August 8 is "Digital Nomad Day." In anticipation of the infinite possibilities that digital nomads create, JDNA established this day on August 8, with its repeating eights evoking infinity "∞," and it was certified and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2023. In the United States as well, the specialized digital nomad magazine "Rootless Living Magazine" established the same day as "Digital Nomad Day" in 2020, making it a globally celebrated anniversary.

Looking at society, the government has raised its target for direct investment in Japan and has positioned the attraction of digital nomads within its action plan to invite talent and capital from overseas. The operation of the "Digital Nomad Visa" residency status also began in March 2024, creating an environment where regions can collaborate with global cross-border talent.

On the other hand, even if regions wish for people to "come," there are still few "entry points" in urban areas where they can directly meet overseas talent and digital nomads, and encounters are often fragmented. To address these challenges, ELENTO and Linnas Design have been holding monthly digital nomad meetups in Tokyo since February 2024, creating over 500 encounters to date. This event is an extension of these efforts, creating a place for regions and nomads to meet face-to-face on the commemorative day of August 8.

About This Event

The event will begin with a morning coffee time called "Digital Nomads Morning Coffee Chat," followed by "Skill Share" during the day where nomads share their skills with each other, and "Local Pitch" where regions from all over Japan convey their appeal to nomads. In the evening, "Digital Nomads Japan meetup" will be held to connect people across borders.

Organizer Comments

Elena Tsukada, Representative, ELENTO LLC

When we started Digital Nomads Japan Meetup with S-Tokyo in February 2024, there was no place in Tokyo where digital nomads visiting from around the world could consistently gather, nor were there any meetups. We ourselves are regional players working on attracting nomads in Shimoda and Kanazawa, and we are also digital nomads who travel the world. From the beginning, our goal has been to support the creation of global related populations in regions, starting from Tokyo as an entry point. Now in our third year, with over 50 events held and more than 500 participants, our community has grown to about 1,000 members, which we are truly delighted about. This August 8 event is a day to bring that vision to life. We hope that not only those living in Tokyo but also everyone working on creating global related populations in their regions will enjoy this event.
