Heart Disease Comorbidity Research Published in Vascular Failure, Wins Award

Eucalia and Professor Hironori Nakagami from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine published a joint research paper in the Japanese Society for Vascular Failure's journal, 'Vascular Failure'. The research won the 'Excellent Presentation Award' at the 11th Annual Meeting on April 19, 2026. The paper, 'Which diseases commonly co-occur with heart diseases in the 10 years preceding to death?', utilized Eucalia's 'Eucalia Data Lake' containing anonymized electronic medical records from 407 cases across 3 affiliated medical institutions. It quantitatively visualized patterns of comorbidities with heart diseases in the 10 years prior to death. Key findings include a surge in heart failure, cancer, anemia, stroke, and pneumonia one year before death. Heart failure showed strong comorbidities with myocardial infarction and pneumonia. The study highlights the comorbidity of heart failure and pneumonia as a crucial pattern in the end-of-life process. Eucalia aims to continue contributing to medical research using real-world data.
