EYEVAN, with the concept of "glasses to wear," was born in 1972 as Japan's first fashion eyewear brand.

For over 50 years, it has continued to produce high-quality Japanese-made eyewear.

The "HISTORIC COLLECTION" is a collection that takes EYEVAN's early models as a starting point and reconstructs them with the technology of modern Sabae, remaining as faithful as possible to the design, materials, and manufacturing methods of the time.

It is also an attempt to re-examine the origins of the EYEVAN brand from a current perspective.

PRODUCTS

From the models created during EYEVAN's founding period, we selected designs that symbolize the brand and pursued faithfulness to the details of the time as much as possible. By carefully examining existing materials and actual items, we have reproduced the atmosphere and feel unique to vintage eyewear down to the finest details.

The frame colors offered are primarily based on colors that actually existed at the time. Due to differences in production backgrounds, there were many colors with subtle nuances that have since been discontinued. In this collection, we have revived such materials in cooperation with the material manufacturers of the time.

In addition to the texture of these materials, we also focused on antique plating finishes as an element that determines the texture of the frame. The deep, dark hue characteristic of the time was stably reproduced using Japan's advanced technology.

While materials and manufacturing methods have evolved with the changing times, this collection deliberately adopts the same alloy materials used during the founding period. Unlike titanium, alloys that enable deep, three-dimensional彫金 (chōkin - engraving/metal carving) expressions and a rich plating texture, combined with the natural luster of the material itself, bring a rich expression and presence to the frames. Regarding consideration for metal allergies, the risks have been significantly reduced due to advancements in modern base treatment technology.

Alloys have a moderate weight, and by fitting them to the face, a stable wearing experience is achieved. Furthermore, the aging process, where the texture deepens over time, is also a unique charm of this material. Such alloy materials require advanced processing technology, and their manufacturing is supported by the hands of a limited number of skilled artisans.

"EYEVAN has an origin to return to."

Since its establishment in 1972, EYEVAN has built its history as a brand that combines fashionability and functionality, drawing inspiration from vintage eyewear collected by its founder from around the world.

High-quality products created by eyewear artisans in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, began to attract global attention from the mid-1980s, and eventually, Eyevan Inc. became a company entrusted with manufacturing (OEM) for numerous overseas brands.

At the time of EYEVAN's founding, the global eyewear market was dominated by European manufacturers, and Japanese-made eyewear was not yet widely known.

However, based on the design of beautiful handmade vintage eyewear created around the world, EYEVAN's glasses, which fused the aesthetic sense of artisans with high quality as industrial products, presented a new value for Japanese-made eyewear and became a presence that disseminated its appeal to the world.

The reputation and trust built in this way have been continuously passed down to the present day.

EYEVAN's pioneering spirit, which has created new values and even changed the trends of the times, has certainly been inherited by the current design team.

In today's world where trends and values are rapidly updated and consumed, the eyewear created by the first-generation design team are "origins" to which we can return. The "HISTORIC COLLECTION" is a self-homage collection that re-examines EYEVAN's history and gives form to the utmost respect for our predecessors.

The "EYEVAN CRAFT Do Be Series," released in 1985, was a series that symbolized EYEVAN's craftsmanship, being one of the first to adopt a 3-piece structure combining plastic rims with metal bridges and temples.

Among them, the DB-7 is a model worthy of being called "The Origin of EYEVAN," indispensable for discussing the "HISTORIC COLLECTION." Although it existed only in catalogs for a long time, a revival project began when a sample was discovered in recent years. The delicate details of the time have been faithfully reproduced, bringing the design, materials, and coloring as close as possible to the original specifications.

AU-5003

size: 51□19-145

col: BLK, BRN, CL

price: ¥47,300-

The "Ivy-Leaguers" series, released in 1977, actively offered oversized frames in response to the fashion scene of young people at the time. Among them, this model was named "Boston Type" by founder Tetsuji Yamamoto, and it became the catalyst for establishing the name and form of the Boston shape in Japan.

A simple hinge structure without decorative rivets is used on the front, and theロウ付丁番 (ro-tsuke chōban - brazed hinge) in the same shape as at the time has been faithfully reproduced using deadstock parts. This model inherits the brand's design philosophy to the present day.

COM-808

size: 55□13-140

col: BLK/SLV, BLK/GLD, BRN/GLD, BRN/SLV

The "Combination Series," released in the early 1980s, was a hybrid and urban series that redefined the relationship between different materials such as acetate and metal.

Among them, the COM-808 is one of the models that symbolizes EYEVAN's combination frames. The boldly placed acetate browline is impressive, and details such as the overall sizing balance and the matte finish of the bridge faithfully reflect the design intentions of the time. The tension and harmony created by the combination of different materials tell of EYEVAN's technology and aesthetic sense.

MA-109

size: 55□16-140

col: SLV, GLD, BLK, ATG

price: ¥47,300-

The "Manhattan Series," released in 1972, was a series that presented the lightness and intellect of metal frames in contrast to the standard black acetate frames for business glasses at the time. The MA-109 is one of the models that embodies this philosophy. The EV logo plate placed on the left temple only is hand-crafted as it was at the time, demonstrating a discreet yet highly finished product and confidence in the product.

DD-21

size: 46□21-140

col: SLV, GLD, ATP, ATG

price: ¥52,800-

The "EYEVAN CRAFT Daddy Series," released in 1985, was the first series to adopt "Dragon Temples" modeled after dragons on the temples. This unique design, which integrated ornamentation and structure, later influenced overseas brands. The DD-21 is one of the models featuring this symbolic design. The bridge design that responds to the presence of the temples and the balanced lens shape are characteristic, serving as an important design source that has been passed down to subsequent EYEVAN products.

VISUAL IMAGES

The new visuals created for the "HISTORIC COLLECTION" visually express the history of Eyevan Inc. and the respect for the predecessors involved in its craftsmanship.

The advertising visuals produced by an American brand, for which Eyevan Inc. handled OEM production in the mid-1980s, depicted little people working together to make glasses, full of humor and sensibility. The clarity that immediately conveyed that it was an eyewear advertisement, the strong commitment to craftsmanship, and the high graphic quality remain timeless. It is one of the symbolic advertisements that led to the brand's subsequent global growth.

The visuals for this "HISTORIC COLLECTION" are also a message of utmost respect and gratitude to the founders of the American brand, who built a long-term partnership with EYEVAN's first-generation design team and fostered a family-like relationship across borders.
