The Japan Financial Education Support Organization (General Incorporated Association) (Co-Representatives: Risa Hirai, Nana Abe; Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as "the Organization"), with the philosophy of "increasing life choices through financial education," will hold workshops to support financial education that leads to survival skills. These workshops are for the "FES Contest®," which recognizes the educational effectiveness of financial education videos produced by junior high and high school students. The workshops will be held during the summer vacation period.
4th FES Contest National Workshop Schedule
Workshops will be conducted both in-person and online. In-person workshops, "Road to the FES Contest," will be held 35 times across the country, from Hokkaido in the north to Fukuoka in the south. In addition, four online workshops will be held. For the first time, two of these online workshops will be conducted in English, led by student staff members attending universities overseas, targeting Japanese junior high and high school students living abroad and those wishing to study abroad.
Participation is free for all workshops. While the target audience is junior high and high school students, some workshops will be held for elementary school students.
4th FES Contest Official Page
"FES Contest" is an abbreviation for Financial Education Support Contest for Students. Junior high and high school students create and submit one-minute vertical videos that serve as learning materials about money for a wide range of generations, explained in language understandable even to elementary school students.
In the workshops, participants will learn about money centered around the "Eight Powers of Money" (Use, Earn, Pay, Save, Prepare, Gift, Borrow, Grow) as classified by the Japan Financial Education Support Organization. Videos submitted to the FES Contest will focus on one of these eight powers, with participants organizing their intended message within that theme.
In-person workshops begin by brainstorming what comes to mind regarding money and then considering which "power of money" each idea relates to.
During the process of deciding on a video theme and refining the content, participants will deepen their learning by asking questions directly to instructors and receiving explanations and guidance.
The knowledge of money learned with an emphasis on output, guided by external instructors, and the completion of a video as the ultimate goal will be an unforgettable learning experience for participants. We hope this experience will motivate them to remain interested in financial education even after the event.
Many of the workshop venues are also venues for the FES Contest regional competitions. Participants will apply for their respective regional competitions in those areas, and for other areas, they will apply for the national competition.
Each workshop and regional competition is held with the support of prefectural and municipal governments and boards of education, or both, in their respective locations. Furthermore, in many regional competitions, awards such as the Governor's Award and the Superintendent of Education Award are offered to honor the challenges of junior and senior high school students who will shape the future of their regions. Such public recognition serves as a driving force for students to enhance their motivation for self-directed learning.
In addition, this year's workshops are being developed with the support of partner companies, organizations, and individuals, as well as the following grants:
ROHTO Children's Dream Fund
Japan Agency for National Health and Medical Research, National Center for Child Health and Development "Children's Dream Fund Grant Activity"
Sekisui House Matching Program
