General Incorporated Association Shibuya Future Design (Location: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter Shibuya Future Design), in cooperation with KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter KDDI), will hold a participatory XR (Cross Reality) art event "SHIBUYA XR ART PARK - Millimeter Wave x AR Co-creation Demonstration Experiment in MIYASHITA PARK -" on July 15, 2026 (Wed) around the lawn plaza at the northern end of Miyashita Park (MIYASHITA PARK) in Shibuya Ward.
This event is held as an urban demonstration experiment to create and implement new urban experiences utilizing public spaces, under Shibuya Future Design's "Shibuya Playground" initiative. It is also positioned as a demonstration experiment site for creating use cases for 5G millimeter waves promoted by KDDI.
Shibuya Playground is a project that promotes the implementation of sports, diverse expressions, and communities while utilizing urban spaces across the board, based on the Shibuya Ward's basic concept of "15 sq km of sports fields" and the promotion of "universal sports." By connecting parks, streets, commercial facilities, public spaces, and even digital spaces, and by implementing cultures such as music, art, and dance along with sports, it fosters communities where people meet and interact. It aims to create open urban experiences that anyone can participate in, regardless of age, gender, or disability, and to improve the sustainable sports and culture formation unique to Shibuya and enhance the city's brand value.
As one of its initiatives, "SHIBUYA XR ART PARK," to be held this time, is an urban XR art project that overlays an AR (Augmented Reality) canvas onto Shibuya's public spaces, allowing artists, students, and visitors to co-create a single artwork. The arch at the lawn plaza at the northern end of MIYASHITA PARK will be used as a giant canvas in AR, and in addition to live painting by artist Manabu Morita and students from Tokyo Designplex Institute, visitors can also freely draw on the same AR canvas and participate in the creation of a single artwork.
In this event, AR content drawn by participants will be integrated in real-time on the cloud and fixed with high precision in the real space using VPS (Visual Positioning System). Furthermore, by utilizing 5G millimeter wave communication, the updated AR canvas will be delivered to smartphones within the venue with low latency, realizing a co-creative art experience where many participants can draw and view the same artwork in real-time.
5G millimeter wave is the high-frequency band of 5G that achieves high-speed, high-capacity, and low-latency communication by leveraging its wide bandwidth. While it has high affinity with services requiring large-capacity communication and real-time performance, such as high-definition video and XR content, opportunities to experience its value in daily life are still limited.
Through this event, Shibuya Future Design will collaborate with KDDI to verify the value that 5G millimeter waves bring to XR experiences, cultural activities, and the formation of co-creative communities in public spaces. Furthermore, it will transmit the possibilities of future urban experiences from Shibuya, utilizing communication infrastructure not merely as a "connecting technology" but as a foundation for connecting people to people, people to cities, and people to creativity.

[About KDDI Corporation]
KDDI provides a wide range of services both domestically and internationally under the "au," "UQ mobile," and "povo" multi-brands for individual customers and the "KDDI BUSINESS" brand for corporate customers, centered on its high-quality communication infrastructure.
KDDI aims to "evolve the 'Power to Connect' and create a society where everyone can realize their dreams" as its "KDDI VISION 2030." Under this VISION, it has formulated its medium-term management strategy (FY2026-FY2028) "Power-to-Connect 2028."
