Suguraku, a Free Word Add-in, Now Supports Following Shifted Clause Numbers and Auto Password Entry

FRAIM Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO and CTO: Gou Miyasaka; hereinafter "the company") has launched the second wave of beta features for its document workflow support service 'Suguraku,' which operates as an add-in within Microsoft Word. Targeting organizations registered for 'team use,' the new features—'Clause Reference Tracking' and 'Password Manager'—are now available. 'Clause Reference Tracking' checks and automatically adjusts references such as 'Article ○' in the document body when clause numbering shifts due to additions or deletions. 'Password Manager' eliminates the need for repeated manual input when handling password-protected Word files. Registration for team use has no minimum member requirement, and even individual users can apply.

About Beta Features and Team Use

'Beta features' allow users to try out functions currently under development before official release. The company launched the first beta feature, 'Consistent Terminology,' on August 26, 2026. This release marks the second wave. The company adopts an iterative approach, refining specifications based on real-world usage and feedback from participating organizations, which will inform future improvements.

'Team use' is a registration option enabling multiple users from the same organization to use 'Suguraku' collectively. It is free of charge and includes member management functionality. There is no minimum number of users, so even solo users can register. Additional members can be added seamlessly at any time.

'Suguraku' offers core features free of charge, with advanced features available as paid plugins. During the beta period, beta features are available at no cost, just like the free core features.

'Clause Reference Tracking' – Following Shifted Clause Numbers

In contracts and internal regulations, adding or removing a clause shifts all subsequent clause numbers. If the text refers to 'as defined in Article 20,' that reference must also be updated. Often, the time spent visually checking which numbers have shifted exceeds the time spent on the actual revision.

'Suguraku' already offers 'broken reference detection' as a free core feature, identifying instances where a referenced clause no longer exists. However, if a clause with the same number still exists after renumbering, the reference appears valid, making errors undetectable by this method. The text 'Article 20' may continue pointing to a different clause that now holds that number, not the originally intended one.

'Clause Reference Tracking' remembers the actual clause being referenced, detecting shifts such as 'changed from Article 20 to Article 21' when new clauses are inserted. Detection occurs automatically during editing, while replacements are executed only upon user confirmation. Users can review suggested corrections, select which to apply, and perform batch replacements, preventing unintended changes.

'Password Manager' – Eliminating Repeated Password Entry

Contracts shared externally or internal regulations with restricted access are often password-protected. Each time such a file is opened, the password must be entered. If both read and write permissions require passwords, users must enter them twice per opening. As the number of managed documents grows, so does the burden of tracking which password applies to which file, often requiring external management.

The 'Password Manager' detects and records passwords entered via Word’s standard functions, automatically filling them in on subsequent openings. Read and write passwords are stored separately, so both prompts are auto-filled for documents requiring both. Stored passwords can be viewed in a list and individually copied or deleted by type.

Recorded passwords are encrypted and stored solely on the user’s local computer using Windows’ standard DPAPI mechanism. They are never transmitted to the cloud or any server. Storage is individual—passwords are not shared with other members, even within a registered team. Note that this feature does not set or remove document passwords; password assignment and removal remain handled through Word’s standard functions.
