Fujisoft's Educational Metaverse 'FAMcampus' Utilized for Nara Prefecture's Truancy Support Project Enters Second Year of Operation - Student Participation Rate Improves, Establishing a Safe Haven

Fujisoft Corporation (Representative Director, President and CEO: Mitsuhiro Murooka) has started the second year of operation for its truancy support project in Nara Prefecture, which utilizes the educational metaverse 'FAMcampus'. This project aims to provide a safe and secure place for truants in Nara Prefecture to learn, interact, and consult, thereby supporting their social independence.

There are 3,593 truants in public elementary and junior high schools in Nara Prefecture.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)※1, the number of truants in elementary and junior high schools in 2024 reached a record high of 353,970, marking the 12th consecutive year of increase. While MEXT is expanding its support system through initiatives such as the 'COCOLO Plan' to ensure that no one is left behind in learning, supporting layers that are hard to reach with conventional methods, such as those who find it difficult to go out or have anxiety about interpersonal relationships, remains a common important challenge for local governments and educational institutions. In Nara Prefecture, the number of truants in public elementary and junior high schools in 2024 has reached 3,593※2.

Effectiveness as a place and ease of operation evaluated, leading to continuation

Since the fiscal year 2023, Nara Prefecture has started utilizing ICT for truancy support and is currently engaged in the truancy support project 'Public Free School 'Nara Connect''. Fujisoft has been providing the metaverse space 'FAMcampus' since the fiscal year 2025, placing truancy support specialists and continuously implementing events that serve as opportunities for interaction, thereby supporting student participation.

The project has been evaluated by participating students, parents, schools, and Nara Prefecture for points such as 'the participation status of other students is visible', 'student movements are easy to grasp through logs', and 'it is easy to operate'. Moreover, since the introduction of FAMcampus, the participation rate has significantly improved, and the fact that it has become a place where students can feel secure has led to its continued operation.

In this project, students participate in the metaverse space, which is open five days a week, at their own pace and style, aiming to recover their mental energy.

By introducing the educational metaverse 'FAMcampus' from the fiscal year 2025, it has become easier to approach such students, and for students who enter the metaverse space, it has become possible to provide support tailored to the needs of each student, such as live classes with multiple participants and individual responses. With the new support utilizing the metaverse space, there has been an improvement in the activity participation rate at the campus, and it has led to face-to-face support at schools and other support agencies, showing positive changes in students."
